Eagle Ray is seeking a senior Java developer with architecture experience to join a team designing and improving a government agency’s technology foundations. The team creates and demonstrates proofs of concept, develops reference architectures, evangelizes good design and coding practices, analyzes and recommends improvements to existing architectures, and evaluates leading-edge technologies. Candidates must possess at least 12 years of hands-on development experience.


The successful candidate will be a skilled communicator, verbally and in writing, and can explain technology solutions to developers and to agency leadership. Our senior architects work closely with development teams, product owners, and other stakeholders to define, manage and oversee architectures for multiple systems. Candidates must be a senior-level developer with real-world Java development experience and experience with two or more of the following architectural infrastructure technologies.

  • Spring Boot
  • Microservices / 12-factor apps
  • Docker / application containers
  • Kubernetes / OpenShift / container management
  • Kafka / stream and event processing
  • Apigee / Kong / API facade services
  • AWS / or other cloud platform

These technologies are in active use by this leading-edge federal government agency. The architect who joins our team will be designing effective and expanded use of these technologies to improve the resiliency, security, extensibility, maintainability, manageability, and performance of current and future agency systems.

  • Enterprise integration patterns and GoF patterns
  • Git
  • Linux / command-line tools and shell scripting
  • PKI and information security
  • REST / API design / Swagger clients
  • SonarQube / static code analysis
  • Jenkins / CI/CD / ZDD / Maven, Gradle / DevSecOps
  • Ruby, Rails, .NET, Groovy


  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a federal government Public Trust background investigation
  • 12+ years of professional development/architecture experience
